The Master Cleanse Begins!

I have started the Master Cleanse yesterday in hopes of releasing all the nasty toxins from the body......day 1 has finished. OUCH
Day one seemed fine till I got to work last night at Up River and all the food was around me. French fries, oysters, bread, pasta.....This is all I saw, and surprisingly I didnt notice all the wine (well I noticed, but it was low priority)...

Let me back track. The goal is to drink 6, 10 oz glasses of a lemonade mixture of lemon juice, grade b maple syrup, cayanne pepper, and spring water for ten days. At night you drink Sienna tea, and in the morning you drink a gallon of unoxidized sea salt and warm water. This flushes in the morning. No foods, no caffiene, no nada. So I figured I would start writing about it to everyone to keep me motivated. So a little help please if you see Im struggling.

So back to DAY 1: I made it through the first day (being Halloween and all) eating an itty bitty bite size candy bar and a tootsie roll ( I know why candy of all things), But I did it! One day of no food (okok I know candy is food, but come on). I came home early and hide out with my empty fridge (yes no wine in there, and no food= no temptation, I may hybernate for ten days!) I drank another glass and did my sienna tea and went to bed.

DAY 2: This morning I woke up early to get the salt solution in me and be able to be around before work, so everything could loosen up. For those that dont know me too well, Im candid about "the system down below". I couldn't drink the whole salt solution without feeling sick and laid down on the bed. Two minutes later I am in the bathroom. Wow...ok I had to go back to bed, I felt as though I might throw up or pass out. I drank a good amount more of the solution. Yup....back in the bathroom and back to bed. Thank god I have a bit of time before I go to work today.

So I embark on day two. The book says I will go through these feelings in the first four days. Upset tummies, maybe vomiting, back aches, headaches....more for people who ingest a lot of toxins. Which would be me. I will take some pictures today so that we an see the difference. Eyes, skin, body...etc. Im curious what will happen.
Wish me luck I am going to need it. One day at a time here!

Zachary Update (The Aquarium)

Somtimes the simplest things in the world can make a day worth it. Last week I went with my cousin and Zachary to the Mystic Aquarium. I thought, "sure thats sounds good, Ill take my camera". I had a real great time with the fish and what not, but what was more fun was watching Zachary and Brenda's ineraction with all the new things in his life. Sea Lions, stingrays, and penguins (which were his favorite!). When I looked at the photos I noticed more then the amazement in his eyes at everything brought in front of him. He was so alert, so fresh. I thought to myself that sometimes we as adults are missing out on the simple things. Life doesn't really have to get all that complex. We create that complexity, which means we can also create that simplicity. Maybe a well needed walk in the woods or on a beach, to take it all in and resort back to the simplistic beauty that has been put in front of us. Or maybe its as easy as watching somebody like Zachary at the aquarium....

Boonville USA

From the movers and shakers of Serge Nivelle Studios in NYC, I bring you Boonville USA.
Ok so a little bit more down to earth. My old assistant in NY embarked on an interesting journey. He is now traveling around the country documenting all the towns in the US named Boonville. There is :

Boonville, Missouri Population 8,202
Boonville, Indiana Population 6,834
Boonville, New York Population 2,138
Boonville, N. Carolina Population 1,138
Boonville, California Population 600-800
Boonville, Texas Population 0

He continues to raise money for the project and has made quite a stir since he departure, making front page of several local newpapers, sleeping in the park when he couldn't find a foster home, and making a distinct "Tim Briner" impression everywhere he goes (for those of you that know him ,thats not hard). All the details are on his blog.
I highly recommend taking a look at the blog, as his stories are informative and funny, and his photos that he has posted are telling.
I missed the going away party, but have remained good contact with him while he's been on the road and I can tell you he's going a little stir crazy. He could use a good support system. SO check him out.
Otherwise have a great day! Im finally back to work after being stuck in bed for about three days! Whew!

The Vanity Fair Tribute to Africa

So there is an article in the new Vanity Fair Issue on the (RED) Products that I know I have sent out a blog or two about. Yes I know two people inparticular that I have bought (RED) for. I myself have a tshirt. So read the article, it talks about the biggest consumer-driven philanthroplogy to hit the world. Who knew by going and buying a tshirt, belt, sunglasses, etc..that you really liked, you would be helping pay for anti-retroviral HIV drugs for some of the poorest countries in Africa. This article shows what consumers like yourself have done in the past year. I applaud anyone who has had the sense to go out and buy the products.
Again the whole Vanity Fair issue this month is dedicated to giving you information on the areas, people, and causes that exist in Africa. AND most of all....how you can get involved. So take that summer enthusiasm and put it to good use.

Yes this is my first time participating in the Photo Lottery. The Tickets are $125 a piece. You buy a ticket and you win some art. Its as easy as that. You dont have to buy one to go, only if you want to win something (and support the AS220 darkroom, and the Broad Street Studio Photographic Memory). There are more details on the website. Overall AS220 is a non-profit community art center (gallery, darkroom, work/live studios, and bar/cafe) and Photographic Memory is program within AS220 for underserved youth to learn about photography. So I am donating one piece to the event. I have sent along a link in case you really want to learn more. Come join, have some fun, win some art and support a good cause.

The Battle Has Begun

So, I got this email from my cousin with these photos attached....the email made reference that dear Zachary is being brainwashed at quite a young age to like the Red Sox. I must put a stop to this.

Mali, AIDS, and Hope

Yes its about that time. I am shopping around for a home for my exhibit that has been up at Brown University. They are indeed the images from Mali, and as well some words to go along with them. I spent a month in Bamako, Mali documenting HIV Clinics and the people of the community for a non-profit organization here in RI. I would love to have another experience like this, and have become so aware of the issues that surround AIDS in Africa. A lack of education, lack of doctors, lack, lack lack...What more to say. Every little bit of help counts and I think awareness and spreading the word is so very important to start the ball rolling. It took me a while to feel that I am up to make another trip like this to document, but I am ready. So I am also looking around to see if there are other non-profits such as this that are looking for a face, some exposure. In the country or out of it. If y ouknow of anything please let me know.
There is a link to see the exhibit images, but if you scroll down youll get more specific stories and a lot more images. Enjoy.

Zachary update

Ok so not really an update, but the first posting of many of the precious little Zachary. I went to go visit him and Mommy the other day, and he was very excited. He yawned, slept, streched, and slept some more. The perfect life. So he is now 2 and 1/2 mths old and blooming! I figured I would just keep posting images of him on here till he's about 18, and then all his girlfriends can come online to see what he looked like as a baby. The big question will still remain. Will he be a Yankees fan or a Red Sox fan?
